[Event Recap] AI and School Transformation Principals' Forum
On 4 August, our Centre Co‑Director, Dr. Ann Lau, was invited as the opening speaker at Sub‑forum 3 of the "AI and School Transformation Principals' Forum", co‑organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Society, and the Guangdong International Education Promotion Association. The forum brought together nearly 90 school principals and experts to explore how schools should navigate the AI era.
In her talk, From "Taking Responsibility for Your Future Self" to a Broader Reflection: How Should We View AI's Impact on Education?, Dr. Lau drew on her experience as both an educator and a Director of Admissions to share how universities are rethinking admissions, curriculum, and pedagogy in the AI era. She noted that when parents and teachers choose a university, they look beyond reputation and rankings — they care about the education and value an institution offers to students.
During the panel discussion, Dr. Lau joined Dr. Changqing Ke, Director of Academic Exchange at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Prof. Timothy Sze, Director, HKUST Mainland Affairs at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, to discuss the role and mission of universities in the AI era — exploring how higher education can embrace technological advancements while nurturing students' humanistic values, critical thinking, and sense of social responsibility.
The CUHK Centre for Bioethics will continue to foster cross‑sector dialogue on the ethical dimensions of emerging technologies, so that discussions on AI and education can evolve into sustained public reflection and practical guidance.
