[Event Recap] The International Conference on "Ethics and Civilization"

The International Conference on "Ethics and Civilization", hosted by Southeast University, commenced in Nanjing on 24 May. Professor Roger Chung, Co-Director of our Centre, delivered a keynote address titled "Cultural Variations in End-of-Life Intervention Measures: A Scope Review of Asian Regions" at the "Ethics and Aging Civilization" session.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Hon-Lam Li (Adjunct Professor of CUHK Centre for Bioethics). Professor Nancy Jecker (Visiting Professor of CUHK Centre for Bioethics), along with previous Lanson Lecture speakers—Professor Peter Singer, Professor Jeff McMahan and Professor Johann Frick, also attended the conference. Professor Julian Savulescu (National University of Singapore) and Professor Hongtu Chen (Harvard University) shared the same panel with Professor Chung, delivering other keynote addresses at the "Ethics and Aging Civilization" session.
Professor Chung‘s research examines variations in end-of-life interventions across Asian cultures. This work strongly aligns with the Centre’s long-term focus, advances bioethics understanding in cross-cultural contexts, and provides insightful perspectives for end-of-life ethical decision-making in Asia, demonstrating the Centre‘s academic leadership in this field.
