Professor DONG Dong

Professor DONG Dong (PhD, MBE, MPhil, BA) is a public health researcher, bioethicist, and health communication scholar at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Her research focuses on health equity, the ethical governance of emerging health technologies, and the experiences of populations facing social, cultural, and structural vulnerabilities.

She founded Rare Lab (www.rare-lab.org), an interdisciplinary research platform dedicated to advancing health equity among people living with rare diseases, migrant women, and forcibly displaced communities. Her scholarship is grounded in community–academic partnerships and draws on a diverse methodological repertoire, integrating qualitative and quantitative research, participatory action research, community-engaged approaches, and emerging computational techniques. Through these flexible and context-responsive methods, she examines lived experiences, health needs, and pathways to care, while promoting patient and community participation in knowledge production, policy development, and health system innovation.

As a recipient of the Cheng-Dzau NAM-CUHK International Health Policy Fellowship, Professor DONG plans to engage with the National Academy of Medicine’s Committee on Emerging Science, Technology, and Innovation in Health and Medicine (ACT-ESTI) and the Building Trust in Health Science Through Community Partnership and Lived Experience initiative. Her interests include the governance of emerging technologies, the integration of lived experience into health decision-making, and the development of policies that are responsive to diverse social and cultural contexts. Through the fellowship, she looks forward to contributing insights drawn from community-engaged research across Asia and other global contexts, while learning from international leaders working at the intersection of science, policy, and society.
