Kai Tai Chan is a specialist in psychiatry, lyricist and writer. He currently serves in various interdisciplinary positions. Throughout the years, apart from clinical practice, he has been involved in various educational activities, service development as well as research activities. In addition to mental health and anti-stigmatization education and campaigns, recently, he has been advocating the development of Youth Mental Health in Hong Kong across different platforms, ranging from online platform to clinical service.

His academic and research interest is on the exploration of the impact of the post-Millennial world to human mind, mental health and society with inter-disciplinary perspectives, especially about the potential impact of digitalilzation upon young people. He published a conceptual paper named “Emergence of ‘Digitalized Self” in the Age of Digitalization’ in 2022, followed by related empirical research. 

To promote well-being in the community, he has been exploring the interplay of culture and mental health as well as advocating the use of music in promoting well-being. Recently, he has published a book called 《多謝廣東歌 讓我好好過》exploring the relationship of Cantopop and well-being and its potential in application. 

In terms of medical education and pedagogical development, apart from continuing his academic works in Psychiatry, Dr Chan joined CU Medicine in 2024 to develop the interdisciplinary subject of Medical Humanities in the Faculty. Recently, he has also embarked on the academic works in the area of Bioethics.
