[Event Recap] The 10th Contemporary Chinese Thanatology Conference

Our Centre Co-Director, Professor Roger Chung, was honoured to participate in the 10th Contemporary Chinese Thanatology Conference—hosted by Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, co-organized by the Chinese Life and Death Studies and Education Association, and successfully held on October 11 under the theme "Chinese Thanatology in a Global Perspective."

Professor Chung delivered a thought-provoking keynote titled "Perspectives Matter: Towards a Global Bioethics in End-of-Life Care." Through a compelling case study on end-of-life decision-making, he illustrated how the perspectives of different stakeholders collectively shape ethical choices. Using the film The Farewell as a touchstone, he demonstrated how each ethical narrative offers a unique lens on complex dilemmas, underscoring the importance of pluralism and humility in cross-cultural bioethics.

His presentation built upon earlier dialogues initiated at the Harvard-CUHK Joint International Symposium on Global Bioethics (June 2025), further deepening the discourse around pluralism in global bioethics.

A heartfelt thank you to the organizers, speakers, and participants for making this event a great success in the ongoing global conversation on life, death, and ethics.

The CUHK Centre for Bioethics will keep advancing these vital conversations, nurturing a more inclusive and pluralistic future for global bioethics.
