[Event Recap] Cultivating Compassion: Symposium on Palliative Support in Hong Kong cum 15th Anniversary Celebration of Palliative Care for the Elderly Programme
On May 14, 2025, Professor Roger Chung, Co-Director of our Centre, was invited as a guest speaker at the "Cultivating Compassion: Symposium on Palliative Support in Hong Kong cum 15th Anniversary Celebration of Palliative Care for the Elderly Programme." The event brought together government officials, healthcare and social welfare professionals, and industry experts to discuss innovative strategies in elderly palliative and end-of-life care, fostering a more compassionate community.
Professor Chung delivered an engaging talk on "Challenges of Promoting Advance Medical Directives in Community Settings." Drawing on his practical experience and academic studies, he discussed key challenges—such as community mistrust in the healthcare system and cultural perceptions. He emphasized the importance of respecting patients’ wishes and dignity, and highlighted the ongoing need for collective efforts to build a compassionate, empowering approach to end-of-life care.
