[Event Recap] Assembly Talk at Shaw College, CUHK

On 20 March 2026, Dr. Derrick Au, Advisor of the CUHK Centre for Bioethics, was invited by Shaw College, CUHK, to deliver a talk at the College Assembly entitled “When Someone You Care About Is Ill: How We Make Health Care Decisions in Hong Kong.

Drawing from a profound family experience, Dr. Au examined the emotional and rational tensions inherent in making critical medical decisions. He also drew on several AI models to unpack the complexities of medical ethics in Hong Kong, shedding light on the delicate dynamics among doctors, patients, and families.

This was a meaningful session, forming part of our Centre’s ongoing efforts to bring bioethics conversations beyond academia and into the wider community.
