[Event Recap] Hospital Authority Convention 2026

We are pleased that our Co-Director, Professor Roger Chung, was invited to speak at Symposium 20 – Supporting Patients in Community or Elderly and End-of-Life Care, held during the Hospital Authority Convention 2026 on 13 May 2026.

The session brought together distinguished experts: Professor Lou Vivian (HKU Sau Po Centre on Ageing) and Professor Jean Woo (CUHK Institute of Health Equity), and was chaired by Dr Cheung Wai-man (Hospital Authority).

In his talk The Future of End-of-life Care Policy in Hong Kong, Professor Chung traced the evolution of local end-of-life policies – from past to present and beyond. He noted that while the Advance Decision on Life-sustaining Treatment Ordinance is a key legal milestone, professional training and public education are equally essential to foster a culture that respects these new rights. Building on this vision, on May 30th, our Centre will hold Getting it Right: Symposium on The Advance Decision on Life-sustaining Treatment Ordinance, offering the public a clear overview of key provisions, mental capacity, and advance care planning.

We extend our gratitude to the Hospital Authority for organising this important platform, and to all attendees who engaged in the thoughtful discussion.

The CUHK Centre for Bioethics remains dedicated to facilitating academic exchange that translates policy intent into real-world impact, advancing health and dignity for all in Hong Kong.
