[Event Recap] S+ Summit Cum Expo Seminar

On 20 May 2025, at the sharing session "Make New Way: Creative Industry and Youth Development" during the 2025 S+ Summit cum Expo, our Centre Co‑Director Prof. Roger Chung offered a timely and thought-provoking reflection on what it means to be human in an age of increasingly intelligent machines.

Prof. Chung observed that as AI tools grow more capable, the question of how we demonstrate human value becomes ever more urgent. AI may process data at speed and generate content with ease — but it lacks the emotional depth, lived experience, and distinctive perspectives that human creators bring to the table.

In the field of creative media, human-centred qualities remain irreplaceable: the ability to connect emotionally with audiences, to improvise in response to real-time feedback, and to infuse work with personal stories and cultural nuance. Prof. Chung noted that technology lowers the barriers to creation, but young creatives must rise to the challenge of distinguishing their human voice in an AI-driven landscape. He urged the next generation to embrace AI as a tool — not a crutch — and to cultivate what machines cannot replicate: passion, authenticity, and the courage to create from lived experience.

His reflections sparked meaningful conversations among attendees, encouraging them to think critically about the future of youth creative media development — and to remember that when technology and humanity coexist, the creative industry will always find new paths forward.
