[WCB in Focus] Symposium on Rethinking Moral Education Across Health Professions – Perspectives from Asia

This was exactly the kind of exchange WCB 2026 was made for. On 9 July in Johannesburg, our Centre Co‑Director Dr. Ann Lau joined four Asian colleagues – Dr. Pacifico Eric Eusebio Calderon, Dr. Peter Chiu Leung Chow, Dr. Olivia Ngan and Mr. Farid bin Masood – for the symposium Rethinking Moral Education Across Health Professions – Perspectives from Asia, exploring how we prepare the next generation to practise with moral courage and cultural competence.

Their discussions spanned cultural traditions, AI ethics, organisational change, accountability, and professional identity formation – not as abstract ideals, but as practical, grounded work happening across the region.

This session stood out not just for the quality of the talks, but for the connections it sparked – colleagues reconnecting, new collaborations forming, and the energy of a shared commitment to moral education finally finding its global audience. For CUHK Centre for Bioethics, it was where regional conversations – building on what we started at the Asia Pacific Bioethics Education Network 6th Annual Conference – met the world stage. Grateful to every speaker and participant who made this possible – these conversations will travel far beyond Johannesburg!
