Helen Chan is currently a Professor (by courtesy) of the CUHK Centre for Bioethics and Professor of the Nethersole School of Nursing of CUHK Faculty of Medicine. Her research interests focus on end-of-life care, gerontology as well as care ethics. She has conducted a number of research projects on promoting palliative and end-of-life care, especially advance care planning, among older adults and people with advanced progressive diseases. Over the recent years, she has obtained various external competitive research grants and a number of research awards in recognition of her outstanding research capabilities. She was also inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2021 and to be inducted to International Nursing Researcher Hall of Fame, Sigma Theta Tau International Society of Nursing in July 2024.


Professor Chan serves as an editor for Journal of Clinical Nursing and an editorial board member of Nursing Ethics and Asian Journal of Gerontology and Geriatrics. She is also a council member of the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology and Honorary Advisor of Elderly Service of the Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association, the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, the Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing and the Jockey Club CADENZA Hub.
