Anselm Au supports the CUHK Centre for Bioethics on matters related to the ethics of emerging technologies. His focus is on Artificial Intelligence, Medical Data, and Clinical Research. He approaches these topics using a cross-disciplinary approach and mixed-method analysis, situating a perspective between philosophy, public policy, medicine, and computer science. As a PhD candidate at the Department of Chemical Pathology, CUHK Medicine, his doctoral research explores deep learning methods to identify and stratify clinically-relevant genomic variants in human DNA.


Prior to CUHK, Anselm held senior executive positions at startup companies and is experienced in commercialising medical technologies. He has contributed to research and development in digital technologies for radiology, epidemiology, and now, genomics.


Anselm received his Master of Engineering (MEng, 1st Hons.) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Imperial College London, and his Master of Science (MSc, Distinction) in Bioethics and Society from King’s College London.
