As we commemorate a decade of advancing ethical dialogue at the CUHK Centre for Bioethics, we are thrilled to welcome esteemed scholars to headline our 10th Anniversary Celebration Seminar Series!
On 24 February 2025, a thought – provoking seminar on “Dementia, Advance Directives, and Oral Feeding” was held.
The seminar featured Prof. Paul Menzel, a distinguished figure in bioethics, philosophy, and health policy. During his tenure at Pacific Lutheran University from 1971 – 2012, he significantly influenced academic debates on biomedical ethics and held important administrative roles.
Prof. Paul Menzel is well-known for his work on healthcare rationing and advance directives. In the seminar, he addressed challenging ethical questions in modern healthcare, such as the respect dementia patients’ advance directives and the ethics of oral feeding.
Prof. Timothy Kwok, S.H. Ho Professor of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine & Therapeutics, CUHK, served as the discussant, offering valuable insights. With an extensive experience in geriatrics from both the UK and Hong Kong, his research on Alzheimer’s and dementia care provided practical perspectives.
Overall, the seminar was a success, deepening understanding of these complex ethical issues, thank you all for your participation!
