As we commemorate a decade of advancing ethical dialogue at the CUHK Centre for Bioethics, we are thrilled to welcome esteemed scholars to headline our 10th Anniversary Celebration Seminar Series!

On 3 March 2025, we hosted an intellectually stimulating seminar titled “What Do We Have in Common: Thinking Together About Good Lives for Older Adults and Caregivers in Ageing Societies.”

The seminar’s spotlight was Dr. Nancy Berlinger, a Senior Research Scholar at The Hastings Center, USA, who  has extensively studied the ethical, social, and policy challenges of aging, dementia care, and caregiving.

Dr. Berlinger brings a humanistic view to bioethics, emphasizing the importance of narratives in shaping moral responsibilities. During the seminar, she encouraged participants to consider what constitute a good life in an aging society for both older adults and their caregivers.

Discussions focused on fostering conditions that promote not just survival, but also flourishing, equity, and shared responsibility in ageing societies.

In summary, Dr. Berlinger provided valuable insights on building caring societies for older adults and their caregivers, inspiring conversations that will influence future policies.
