Professor Alexandre Erler (Associate Professor, Institute of Philosophy of Mind and Cognition, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University)
Professor Alexandre Erler is a philosopher studying issues arising from new technologies with the potential to significantly transform society and the human condition, including artificial intelligence. He holds a doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Oxford and was a Research Associate Professor in Philosophy and Bioethics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2017 to 2022.
Generative AI systems like ChatGPT or Midjourney have recently become the centre of attention due to their transformative implications for content creation in various domains. This seminar will provide a basis for critical reflection on the use of these new tools in higher education, including the rationales given for limiting their use, the feasibility of doing so, and the prospects for incorporating those tools into academic practice in a responsible manner.
